I arrived at Bridge Bay around 9pm Friday. It was already dark from cloud cover, so I went to the ranger presentation instead of heading out for a sunset shoot. Most campsites will have them nightly, and it’s usually an interpretive ranger talking about wolves, bison, park history, etc. Tonight it’s wolves and their history in the park – informative. I also got his opinion on some recent Jackson news I found interesting (and controversial).

Yellowstone May 27 – 31: Bears, Bison, and Variable Weather
I planned an extra-long weekend in the park – most offices frown on people sneaking a Friday off before a holiday weekend. But hey, it was my b-day Friday so I have a legit reason to not work. 🙂

Yellowstone May 7: Surrounded by the Wapiti Wolves
Drove up to Madison Friday evening; no rain this time despite the forecast. It stayed warm too with the cloud cover, 45 degrees at 5:30am.
The goal this weekend is to visit Hayden Valley at its opening. I try to focus on one part of the park when Dunraven is closed. So as tempting as hearing about wildlife activity in Lamar, I stayed put between Canyon and Fishing Bridge.

Yellowstone February 12 – 15: Coyotes Rule the Park
Day 1
This Friday I had an opportunity to join Max and other photographers to look for bobcats. Thanks Max for letting a rookie in the group. 🙂

Yellowstone Jan 8 – 10: Interior Snowmobile Trip
My coworker scored a permit through the self-guided tour lottery system. We have had route sketches on the marker board in the office for several weeks hashing out possible routes and plans.
This group is pretty diverse and had different objectives on the trip. A few us are big into backcountry skiing, while others are biologists into animal tracking, photographers, etc. I think we did a pretty good job at planning activities around all our wants for the trip.

Yellowstone Sept 19: Bears and Beartooth
This weekend, I went up to the park with a friend from work. I think she will be deemed my good luck charm from this point forward. 🙂
Yellowstone July 11 – 13: Bears
For this weekend outing, I had a couple visitors. Spent less time looking for wildlife and more time hiking / driving around. I realized that I had the patience to wait around for hours waiting for a wolf sighting, but they have much more they have not seen yet.
Yellowstone July 3 – 5: Grizzly Bears on Warm Summer Days
Drove up from Jackson Thursday after work, camped in Canyon. I was interested in seeing the Wapiti pack in Hayden Valley, so I spent a lot of time there. I also enjoyed meeting up with people I met last summer and even some fellow YNeters. 🙂

Yellowstone May 22 – 25: Black Bear Drama
I should note that even in late May, having adequate snow tires was helpful. On the way up, I was caught in a thundersnow storm where several inches of frozen precip piled up on the road quite quickly.
