The weather has been so nice this late in the season, I decided to camp the last weekend the south roads were open. I wanted to hike around Lamar Valley on Saturday, so I stayed at Mammoth instead of Lewis Lake, which was also open. Last time I stayed up here was in February. I made it to a site at around 8:30.

Yellowstone Sept 9 – 12: Dunraven Bears, Fire, and SNOW
Headed up from Jackson, driving through the burned areas from the Berry Fire. First campsite is in Canyon, and the sun is setting early now. By the time I made it to Mud Volcano, there was already a nice sunset.

Yellowstone Aug 27: Some Patient Rewards
Watching the Maple Fire from a distance, I was curious what it looked like from the roadside, since the map showed it so close. Also that bison carcass at LeHardy Rapids was getting some attention. So, I thought to use up my free Saturday on a quick day trip.
Yellowstone August 2 – 4: Hot Summer Days in Hayden Valley
My parents are in town, so it’s a rare occurrence to take the time off work and enjoy a few midweek days in the park.

Yellowstone July 16: Wapiti Drama
Just in the park for the a day, but it was great meeting up with people I’ve gotten to know over the last couple summers and also catching up with the latest Wapiti drama. The goal for the day was to see them interacting with the Mollies, and maybe get a picture with them all together.
Yellowstone July 2 – 4: Wildlife, hikes, and storms
Arrival (July 1)
Outa work and hauled up to Bridge Bay from Jackson. I heard about the bison carcass in Hayden Valley, so I wanted to get my bearings on that exact location for the following morning. There was a grizzly on the way to the carcass when I showed up, and I got some cool sunset shots of it swimming the river. It was one of those “sitting in a jam, might as well take a picture” moments, and it turned out to be a good capture.

Yellowstone June 11: Wapiti and Washburn
I arrived at Bridge Bay around 9pm Friday. It was already dark from cloud cover, so I went to the ranger presentation instead of heading out for a sunset shoot. Most campsites will have them nightly, and it’s usually an interpretive ranger talking about wolves, bison, park history, etc. Tonight it’s wolves and their history in the park – informative. I also got his opinion on some recent Jackson news I found interesting (and controversial).
Yellowstone May 27 – 31: Bears, Bison, and Variable Weather
I planned an extra-long weekend in the park – most offices frown on people sneaking a Friday off before a holiday weekend. But hey, it was my b-day Friday so I have a legit reason to not work. 🙂

Yellowstone May 7: Surrounded by the Wapiti Wolves
Drove up to Madison Friday evening; no rain this time despite the forecast. It stayed warm too with the cloud cover, 45 degrees at 5:30am.
The goal this weekend is to visit Hayden Valley at its opening. I try to focus on one part of the park when Dunraven is closed. So as tempting as hearing about wildlife activity in Lamar, I stayed put between Canyon and Fishing Bridge.

Yellowstone February 12 – 15: Coyotes Rule the Park
Day 1
This Friday I had an opportunity to join Max and other photographers to look for bobcats. Thanks Max for letting a rookie in the group. 🙂
